My Christmas Cookie List and a Giveaway!

So it seems like everyone in the food blogging world is making cookies for Christmas. Well, I did  not want to miss the fun so I came up with my own little list of cookies I am going to make. I have been making cookies from scratch since I can remember. It was one of the first things I ever learned how to bake. I have also made my fair share of treats for Christmas to give as goodies, but mostly just to close friends and families. I have to admit is has been awhile I am afraid and I feel a bit rusty. Plus, with the craziness of the holidays and the fact that I’m going to Thailand for a month three days after Christmas I figured I best not overdo myself. So I’m keeping it simple this year. I’m making three kinds of cookies, all very simple, and an easy chocolate truffle. Maybe next year I’ll go gung ho and go crazy with my cookie baking self! :) We’ll see.

So here is my cookie list and the link to the recipes I plan to use:

Chocolate Truffles by Ina Garten

Mexican Wedding Cookies

Gingersnap Cookies

World Peace cookies by Dorie Greenspan

I plan to alter the recipes a bit to give each cookie a little unique twist. I will post pictures and full recipes in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, to help me get into the holiday mood, I am giving away a copy of Christmas Cookies: 50 recipes to treasure for the holiday season.

Just leave a comment on my blog and answer the following question:

What is your favorite holiday cookie?

The Contest will run for one week and will end Saturday, December 13th at 10pm PST.

Thanks for visiting!

Count me in as a Christmas Cookie blogger. I've already plowed through quite a few recipes and we're still in the first week of Dec!

My fave cookie... is one that my mother always makes- a rolled chocolate cookie (bake and slice!)

I'm loving the cookie making myself! My favorite is my grandmother's date filled cookie recipe!

Great blog! My favorite holiday cookie would have to be a tie between snickerdoodles & gingerbread men. I can't get enough of either! :)

Are you really asking us to just pick ONE favorite from the huge multitude of amazing holiday cookies? I'm not sure thats even possible! However, I just can't get enough of homemade christmas Sugar Cookies, I think thats partly because of how much I love to decorate them though!

It is rather a difficult task to choose just one, but here goes.......has to be my Celtic molded shortbread, which I just made!
I have just arrived here and I love what I see!

My Scots Granny's shortbread. It's fantastic.

I am really easily satisfied on this one...it's Nestle Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies! (But if it makes it sound any better we can pronounce it like Phoebe on Friends!)

Hi Katie and thanks for visiting my blog. My favorite Christmas cookies are Candy Canes. The recipe came from an old Betty Crocker All-Time Favorites cookbook and everyone loves them.

Right now I'm loving Snickerdoodles. My mom was always the one to make them during the holidays. Now that she's battling inoperable cancer, I'm making them to cheer everyone up. Even though she can't taste them, she said they were wonderful. Dad's vote was that mom's were better, which cheered HER up immensely!

Hmmmm.... Hard to pick just one cookie! I might have to say a snickerdoodle.

Thanks for letting me know, Katie - I love cookies and you've listed two of my FAVORITES.. gingersnap and World Peace cookies. *slurp* But my ultimate favorite is my auntie's Magic Cookie Bars.. she would always make them for us at Christmas.. I miss them tremendously and now you've given me even more reason to bake a batch for our Xmas Eve party - thanks! :)

Awww, thanks for the link, you darling YOU!!! My favorite holiday cookie is very simple and common - a good roll-out cookie with LOTS of frosting! YES!

Well Kat, I will tell you what you already know, I love cookies! My extra favorite one for the holidays could be the "gingerbread men" if it wasn’t for the second word on it; that part is up for discussion.

Just found you through everyone's favorite FoodGal, and I think her Italian macaroons are about to become my favorites too. But, until then, it's Brown Sugar Christmas Thins (not thinning at all!) Have bookmarked your blog for further perusal as soon as the baking madness subsides. I'm down in Cupertino, and I love discovering relatively "local" blogs :-)

I think my favorite holiday cookie is a decorated cut-out sugar cookie, but what I make most often during the holidays are cinnamon bars. I would love to win this cookbook. A local newspaper writer reviewed it yesterday, said the lemon squares were the best she has ever had and then did NOT give the recipe!

Carroll said...

Ack! So sorry!! I have no idea why that posted twice. It looked like the first one had completely disappeared during the google registration/sign-in process, so I re-wrote. thought for sure I had only hit "post" just the one time. Don't ban me as a spammer please -- evidently I'm just a computer klutz! :-)

Christmas and Ginger cookies go hand in hand. At least I love it when the ginger cookie is in MY hand! I also love chocolate cookies with candy canes crushed on top. No wonder we all gain so much weight this time of year!

What a fun giveaway! My favorite holiday cookie? That is a tough one, but I do love almond thumbprint cookies... I can't resist them for anything!

Oh gosh...I love cookies, it's hard to name just one. But I'd probably have to go with good ole chocolate chip--they just remind me of my childhood :)

I noticed you had gingersnaps on your list, and you commented on my blog that you liked whole wheat flour. I made some whole wheat ginger cookies a while back--they were scrumptious and very chewy!

Thanks for dropping by...and for giving me the opportunity to win some goodies! :)
